The Waukesha County Historical Society & Museum shares the old county courthouse, built in 1893. The courthouse was constructed using rock-faced limestone in a Romanesque style that was popular for public buildings in the late 1800s. A fun fact: This building is actually three structures connected to each other. The western portion is the jailhouse built in 1885, with the separate courthouse built in 1893. The central portion was constructed in 1938 as a New Deal project to connect the two buildings. The structure served as the center for justice in the county until 1959.
Visitors will experience the museum, which they can explore on their own. They are able to take behind-the-scenes tours of collections storage and archival vaults rarely seen by the public!
We will also have a craft available in our Waukesha State Bank Education Center for kids and families of all ages to enjoy.
