SUMMARY:August Lunch and Learn
DESCRIPTION:Wisconsin and the Watery World of Beavers \nNicholas Miller\, PhD \nBeavers are ecosystem engineers who are producers of biodiversity\, mitigators of floods\, and preventers of fires\, and are often entangled in conservation tactics. Using personal anecdotes\, interviews\, and folklore\, this presentation will briefly highlight the cultural and natural history of the beaver\, discuss some of the mythology of the critter in the Great Lakes area\, and explain the ecological impact and importance of the animal in Wisconsin. \nNicholas Miller did his doctoral research in Milwaukee on the return of beaver and sturgeon and has a PhD in “Multispecies History and Anthropology” from the UW – Milwaukee. He is currently a Teaching Professor of History and Anthropology at Ball State University. His research combines public history\, environmental anthropology\, and folkloristics. He has worked with the National Park Service\, the National Endowment for the Humanities\, and in multiple museums\, archives\, and universities. \nRefund Policy – Contact the organizer to request a refund. \nTickets: \n\n$28 – Nonmembers with a Box Lunch of choice\n$25 – Members with a Box Lunch of Choice\n$10 – Program only\, no lunch\n\nTickets can be ordered online – click on the link below\, at the museum – Hours Wednesday – Friday 1 pm – 4 pm and Saturday 10 am – 4 pm\, or over the phone at 262-521-2859. \nOrder tickets on-line \nRochester Deli’s box lunches include a sandwich\, chips\, and a dessert. All sandwiches are on multi-grain bread* with leaf lettuce\, tomato\, with mayo and brown mustard on the side. Sandwich options include: \n\nRoast Turkey\nSliced Tavern Ham\nAngus Roast Beef\nChicken Breast Salad\nEgg Salad\nGrilled Veggie\nTuna Salad\n\n(*gluten free bread is available) \nTo order lunch: click here\nPlease make sure to submit your choices by 4 pm on the Friday before the event. If you do not submit a lunch choice\, the default option of Turkey will be ordered for you. Water will be provided. \nWhat if I need to cancel my order? Rochester Deli needs the lunch order by the Friday before the Lunch & Learn date.
